US Women’s National Team Wraps Up World Games Campaign

Chengdu, China – The United States Women’s National Fistball Team has concluded their 2025 World Games journey in Chengdu, China, finishing 8th after a hard-fought week of competition against the the sport’s strongest nations.

Placed in the Silver Group alongside Argentina, Chile, and New Zealand, the Americans opened group play on Saturday, August 9. The tournament began with a rematch against Argentina, where the US pushed hard in the second set before falling 3–0 (11:7, 14:12, 11:5). Later that same day, the team battled Chile, forcing extra points in the third set but ultimately dropping another 3–0 result (11:7, 11:2, 14:12). Group play closed against rivals New Zealand, where the US kept the opening set close but came up short 3–0 (11:9, 11:5, 11:8).

In the Consolation Round, the US Women faced Chile once again and delivered one of their strongest performances of the tournament. After narrowly losing the opening set 11:9, the Americans stormed back to take the second 11:9, marking their first set win of the competition. Chile responded, however, winning the next two sets 11:2 and 11:6 to secure the 3–1 victory.

That result sent the US into the 7th Place Match against Argentina. Once again, the Americans showed grit, evening the match at 1–1 after winning the second set 11:5. Argentina, however, regained control in the third and fourth sets, winning 11:8 and 11:4 to close out a 3–1 victory and hand the US an 8th place finish.

While the results did not reflect the team’s effort, the tournament provided valuable international experience for a squad blending veteran leadership with newer faces on the world stage. The Americans improved their consistency as the week progressed, highlighted by set wins in both of their final matches.

The athletes of the US Women's National Team now turn their attention towards preparations for the 2026 Pan American Games and 2028 Women's World Championships with the ultimate goal of returning to the World Games in four years time in Karlsruhe, Germany.
