ROXBURY, NJ – The United States Fistball Association (USFA) in conjunction with the Roxbury-based Swim and Sport Club, and possibly the Roxbury Recreation Department, will soon be starting the only youth fistball league in New Jersey.
Beginning in mid-May and running through the end of July, the new fistball league is for both boys and girls – in age groups U12, U15, U18 – and adults 19 and older.
If the USFA and fistball is approved and adopted as a sport by the Roxbury Recreation Department, the sport wold become part of the Roxbury Recreation roster of sports.
Men and women teams of all ages and abilities have been playing fistball at the Swim and Sport Club on Emmans Road since the 1930s.
“This is a big step to grow fistball and create better teams for National and International play,” said Unites States Fistball Association President Bob Feid. “Over the past few years we have sent U18 boys and girl’s teams to play in the International Championships in Germany and Switzerland. Right now, we would like to start players at a younger age to learn the basic fundamentals of Fistball and sharpen their skills in order to compete at a high international level.”
The United States Fistball Association will be holding free Fistball demonstration/practices in the Roxbury High School gym. March 19 and April 2, 17 and 29 .
Ages 9 – 13 will be 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Ages 14 and up will be 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
